Learn to paint on fabric using natural dyes. This workshop will explore painting with raw natural dye materials, plant extracts, and mordants.

Participants will learn how to create dye and mordant pastes as well as techniques for painting, stenciling and setting dyes on silk and cotton fabric.

The first day of class will be dedicated to learning to extract color from raw natural materials, creating and working with mordant pastes, and making small samples. Day two we will overdye mordanted designs and each student will have the opportunity to work on a larger fabric painting, scarf or yardage piece.
