In this workshop students will learn the fundamentals of lost wax glass casting by transforming a found or sculpted object into glass. This will include wax-sculpting, glass cutting and calculation, basic cold-working, and firing theory. Silicone mold-making will be discussed and demonstrated. Students will leave class with a finished glass object.
This course is suitable for all skill levels, including absolute beginners. Limited space available (class size is limited to 4 people).
Class Schedule:
Sunday, May 26: 10:00am - 5:00pm
Wax working
Sprues, vents, and reservoirs
Silicone mold-making demo
Monday, May 27: 10:00am - 5:00pm
Additional wax working time if needed
Mold-making, steam out, volume calculations
Cut and prep glass, load kiln
Firing Lecture
Tuesday, May 28: 10:00am - 5:00pm (Optional work day)
Optional workday to complete any remaining steps (mold-making, steam out, volume calculations, cut and prep glass and load kiln)
