Felt Baskets
Felt Baskets
Felt is one of the oldest known textiles and has been used across cultures for clothing, furnishing, and even defense. An unwoven fabric, felt is created through matting, condensing, and pressing animal fibers into a versatile and sculptural material that can be either pliant or structural. This two-day workshop will take students through the steps of processing raw wool into seamless felted three-dimensional baskets without sewing. These baskets make beautiful storage containers, toy boxes, bags and gifts. Students will learn both traditional and contemporary techniques that are easily replicated at home. Each student will leave with material samples and one completed felt basket. No experience necessary. Beginners welcome!
